Ingredients of this strawberry chocolate smoothie
This Chocolate Strawberry Smoothie is made with just a few natural ingredients that you may already have on hand. It’s dairy-free if you use non-dairy milk; We recommend oat milk for smoothies because of its creamy texture and neutral taste. Here’s what you’ll need for this smoothie (or continue to recipe below for quantities):
- Frozen Strawberries
- banana
- Old-fashioned oats: optional, but add a good dose of whole grains
- cocoa powder
- almond butter
- milk of your choice: Dairy products, oat milk or almond milk
- Pure maple syrup or honey or agave syrup
- Ice
Mix it up and give it a flavor: you can add a little more milk to mix it up. The fruity, chocolaty flavor was a big hit here.

Top it off with a topping
This Chocolate Strawberry Smoothie tastes amazing on its own: but here’s a little trick to amplify it when you’re making it as a treat. Cover with a pinch of dark chocolate! You only need about 1 tablespoon, and stirring it in occasionally results in delicious chocolate chips. It’s optional but a fun way to level up!
Ways to add protein
Almond butter brings protein to this chocolate strawberry smoothie without overwhelming the flavor! However, you can add more protein, especially if you’re using it as a meal replacement. Here are some options:
- Chia seeds. You can add plant-based protein and fiber to chia seeds: 2 tablespoons of chia seeds add 4 grams of protein and 11 grams of fiber.
- More almond butter. Add another tablespoon of nut butter to add another 4 grams of protein.
- Vanilla or Chocolate Protein Powder: Protein powder works well here: We use this protein powder with natural ingredients and not overly artificial flavor.
