How to Make a Casamigos Margarita: Swirl this classic cocktail with the smoothest tequila around!

Daisy Casamigos

Do you have a bottle of Casamigos tequila? Of course, it is best drunk straight. But the next best way is this Daisy Casamigos! The extra sweet tequila makes for a killer margarita with hints of vanilla and caramel on the finish. All you need is some orange liqueur and lime juice to create the most balanced and flavorful sweet and savory cocktail you’ve ever had.

Ingredients of a Casamigos Margarita

The margarita is a classic cocktail invented in Mexico in the 1930s and remains one of the most popular cocktails of all time. A classic margarita only has 3 ingredients: tequila, triple sec, and lime juice. The Casamigos Margarita uses Casamigos Tequila, and the blend of spicy, sweet and salty is a truly spectacular combination with the ultra-mild tequila. Here’s what you need:

  • Casamigos tequila: We like their tequila reposado better, but it works with tequila blanco
  • Cointreau or Triple Sec
  • lime juice
  • Kosher salt or flaky salt for the rim

Find out more about Casamigos

Tequila brand Casamigos was launched in 2013 by George Clooney and nightclub owner Rande Gerber with the goal of making the “tastiest, smoothest tequila.” Overall, they’ve been successful with the brand, which was acquired by Diageo for nearly $1 billion in 2017.

Casamigos Tequila is quite sweet for a tequila, with hints of vanilla on the finish. The Casamigos Tequila Resposado is our favorite: 7 months of aging give it complex notes of oak and tropical fruits that make it an interesting margarita.

Step Up: Clear ice and a salt rim

The Casamigos Margarita, like any margarita, needs a salt rim for the best flavor. (What’s a salt-free margarita anyway?) But you want to make the best presentation? Add clear ice! Here’s what you need to know:

  • clear ice is crystalline ice made up of large blocks or chunks (compare to cloudy ice from an ice machine). It’s what bars use to make drinks more elegant.
  • You can make transparent ice cream at home! Use this clear ice tutorial with a small cooler or clear ice tray.

Serving a Crowd: The Casamigos Margarita Jug

If you’re entertaining, shaking drinks to order can last all night. The solution? Try a pitcher of Casamigos Margarita! For 8 servings, place in a pitcher:

  • 1 ½ cups Casamigos Tequila
  • 1 cup Cointreau or Triple Sec
  • ¾ cup lime juice
  • 3 handfuls of ice cream

Mix and you have 8 glasses in 5 minutes! Be sure to add the right amount of ice cubes: this will dilute the drinks just enough.
