Campari and soda

There are so many ways to drink Campari, from chilled to the ubiquitous Negroni. But our favorite way to drink it? Plain and simple: with bubbles! Campari and soda is one of the easiest ways to prepare a Campari cocktail: and in our opinion, one of the most delicious. The bubbles dull the bitterness of this liqueur and soften it, allowing you to enjoy the herbal and sweet notes.

What is Campari and Soda?

Campari and Soda is a highball cocktail made with Campari and soda. Adding water to alcohol isn’t a new concept: some of the most well-known include Rickey’s Gin from the 1880s and Highball Whiskey from the early 1900s.

But Campari and Soda most closely resembles the Americano, a classic cocktail invented in the 1860s. Containing lemonade, Campari and sweet vermouth, it was invented in a bar called Caffe Campari in Milan, Italy, which was owned by the inventor of Campari himself! The drink was named due to its popularity with American tourists. Campari and Soda just leave out the vermouth! So for this drink you will need:

Makes an easy-to-swallow, low-calorie beverage

Mix Campari and lemonade together and sip: you’ll find that the water softens the liqueur and helps you enjoy the flavors even more. It’s almost like the flavors are stretched so you can taste them individually. For this reason, mixing sparkling water with alcohol has been a tradition for centuries.

Another plus for this method of cocktail preparation? Compared to other cocktails, it is very low in calories! A shot of Campari has 120 calories. For example, the Campari soda drink contains only 120 calories, compared to 250 calories or more for a standard cocktail.

Elevate it with toppings

How do you take your Campari and soda to the next level? Bright red and sparkling, this drink looks very sophisticated in a tall highball glass. A few ways to make it even more impressive:

  • clear ice: Make homemade clear ice and cut into big chunks: this is the best way to make a great drink!
  • citrus quarters: This drink also looks great with a slice of orange or lemon.
