This vibrant veggie and avocado pizza is the ultimate veggie pizza recipe with peppers, fresh basil and creamy goat cheese!

After 4 trips to Italy and more than 10 years of research, Alex and I can finally say that we are experts in homemade pizza. We’ve created our own master recipes for a perfectly moist, crispy crust and flavorful tomato sauce. We know how to get these beautiful characters (our fancy stove). While the classic Margherita pizza is our specialty, there’s a new favorite in town: this California Veggie Avocado Pizza! It’s packed with colorful veggie toppings: peppers, tomatoes, red onions and dollops of soft goat cheese. Top it all off with that treasured vegetable (or fruit!): the avocado.

The secrets to topping this veggie avocado pizza

This veggie and avocado pizza is a take on the “So Cal” pizza served here in Indianapolis at Jockomo’s. When a dear friend asked if we could create a So Cal inspired pizza, we jumped at the chance. It turned out incredibly colorful and totally delicious due to the great combination of flavors and textures. Here are the toppings for this veggie avocado pizza:

  1. Easy Homemade Pizza Sauce: Our “famous” pizza sauce is a delicious base
  2. Mozzarella & Goat Cheese: Dollops of creamy, flavorful goat cheese contrast with gooey mozzarella
  3. Paprika & Red Onion Add beautiful colors and a crunchy texture
  4. Fresh basil adds a peppery-herbal note
  5. Lawyer seals the deal (or even grilled avocado)

In all our years of making artisanal pizzas, this Veggie Avocado Pizza is our favorite topping. It’s a delicious way to eat an avocado… like you need another one! Speaking of which, we’ve started an informal pizza night tradition on Thursdays instead of Fridays! It was a nice way to celebrate almost the end of the week. And you, do you have any pizza traditions?

The description

This vibrant veggie and avocado pizza is the ultimate veggie pizza recipe with peppers, fresh basil and creamy goat cheese!

  1. Prepare pizza dough: Follow the Best Pizza Dough recipe to prepare the dough. (It takes about 15 minutes and 45 minutes to rest.)
  2. Place a pizza stone in the oven and preheat to 500°F. OR preheat your pizza oven (this is the pizza oven we use).
  3. Prepare pizza sauce: Prepare homemade pizza sauce.
  4. Preparation of the toppings: Cut the peppers into small pieces. Finely chop the onion. Chop the basil leaves (chiffonnade). Remove the pit from the avocado.
  5. Place the dough on the pizza peel: When the oven is done, dust a pizza peel with corn or semolina flour. (If you don’t have a pizza peel, you can use a rimmed baking sheet or the back of a rimmed baking sheet. But a pizza peel is worth the investment!) Roll out the dough in a circle; For instructions, see How to stretch pizza dough. Then carefully place the dough on the pizza peel.
  6. Assemble pizza quickly: Spread a thin layer of pizza sauce on the dough. Top with mozzarella cheese. Then add the sliced peppers, onions and spoonfuls of goat cheese. Using a spoon, scoop small spoonfuls of meat out of the pizza. Sprinkle the top with kosher salt.
  7. Bake pizza: Using the pizza peel, place the pizza on the pizza stone in the oven and bake until cheese is melted, about 7 minutes (or 1 minute in a pizza oven). Let cool slightly, then garnish with basil and serve.
