Are you looking for a way to pack more fruits and veggies into your life? try that blueberry juice! Simply mix blueberries with some water, lemon juice and sweetener and you have a sweet cake and a delicious healthy drink. It’s a great way to infuse all of those blueberry antioxidants in one big dose, perfect for drinking with lunch or a snack. We loved this berry drink and there are many variations on the theme. Here’s how to make this easy mash!

Ingredients for blueberry juice

Blueberry juice is easy to make with a blender or juicer! We had plenty of blueberries to use after blueberry picking, so this was a perfect way to use them up (aside from blueberry desserts, of course!). It’s also a great way to use blueberries that are almost past their prime to reduce food waste. Here’s what you need:

  • blueberries
  • Water
  • lemon juice
  • sugar, honey or maple syrup (or 1 apple)

For the sweetener (or add an apple)

You can make blueberry juice with just blueberries and some sweetener, or you can add another fruit for a more natural sweetness! Here’s what you need to know:

  • A touch of sugar, honey maple syrup is like salt for sweet dishes: It helps bring out the taste. Since it’s a healthy drink, we didn’t want to add too much sugar. You can add more than indicated in the recipe below to bring out the flavor.
  • You can also prepare this juice with 1 apple. Leave the skin and chop it. It gives the juice a nice texture (see below) and acts as a natural sweetener. You can always add a pinch of sweetener: and remember that adding apple makes the flavor of berries more neutral.
  • The texture of this juice can be quite thick due to the pectin in the berries. You don’t want to add too much water or it will dilute the flavor too much. Thus, the apple is useful for texture and acts as a natural sweetener.

How to make blueberry juice

Blueberry juice is similar to a smoothie, but you simply mix the berries with water and some flavoring. If you have a juicer, you can also make this recipe: simply run all the ingredients in the recipe below through your juicer, avoiding straining (consider double batches if possible). Here’s what to do:

  • Blend all ingredients on high power until pureed and smooth. At this point, it looks like a thick smoothie.
  • blunt! This is the important part. Pass the juice through a fine sieve.
  • Add lemon juice and sugar. A dash of lemon juice and sweeteners add just the right amount of brightness to the flavor at the end. You can add more sugar if you like

Variations: additional flavors!

Aside from adding apple to this blueberry juice, there are many other flavor variations. Here are some other ideas to lighten up your juice:

  • Pineapple: Add 1 cup chopped fresh or canned pineapple. (You will get a bigger yield with this addition).
  • mango: Add 1 cup diced fresh mango.
  • Pear: Add 1 chopped pear.
  • Cinammon: Add a pinch or two of cinnamon to bring out the flavor of the berries.

storage information

Store homemade blueberry juice in the refrigerator for 1-2 days. Stir before serving as it can get very thick after cooling. Add a little lemon juice or water if it’s very thick.
