How (and why) to confuse

The best way to bring fruit and herbal flavors into a cocktail? Confusion. When grinding, herbs or fruits are gently crushed to release their juice. For the blackberry mojito, mash the mint and blackberries, then add the remaining ingredients. Here’s what to do:

  • Use a cocktail pestle. It’s the right tool for the job! It’s easier to use a cocktail muddler like this one, or you can use an unfinished wooden spoon.
  • Crush the mint first. This will help loosen the oils from the mint before liquids are added.
  • Add the blackberries and puree again. Puree the berries until they form a juice. Then add the ingredients, shake with ice and strain the drink. Don’t have a cocktail shaker? You can use a glass jar with a lid (drill holes in the lid for straining).

Make a Pitcher of Blackberry Mojito (for 8!)

Making blackberry mojitos for a crowd? Try making a mojito pitcher! It takes a while to shake the drinks to order. But if you make a pitcher, you’ll have 8 glasses at once! How to proceed with this variant:

  • Puree 2 cups blackberries.
  • Make the mojito pitcher recipeand use a strainer to sift the juice from the mashed blackberries into the pitcher along with the mint syrup.
  • Add additional blackberries Jug as a garnish.
