We’ve had a passion (limit obsession) with this stuff ever since. It’s tangy, sweet, salty and hot all at the same time and always goes well with a crowd. How can you tell when a mango is ripe?

Make sure your mangoes are nice and ripe for this salsa recipe! There’s nothing worse than hard, tart mango cubes. You will know when they are ripe They are fragrant and give a little when you gently press on them with your thumb. Hard mangoes don’t have the right flavor or texture, so avoid making mango salsa with unripe fruit.

How to make mango salsa

It never ceases to amaze people when they find out how easy it is to make homemade salsa. This easy mango salsa recipe is super easy and tastes amazing with fish, veggie tacos, or on its own with tortilla chips. Here’s what you need to do:

  • Chop mango, onion, cilantro and jalapeño. Dice the ripe mangoes (further instructions below) and finely chop the red onion. Roughly chop the fresh coriander and seeds and chop the jalapeño peppers (wash your hands afterwards!). The chopping step is the longest part of the process.
  • Mix in the lime and salt. Then just toss it all together in a bowl with a squirt of fresh lime juice and kosher salt. Feel free to adjust the ingredient ratios to your liking. To make this mango salsa recipe spicier, add more pepper and lime juice for a brighter flavor.
  • Rest for 15 minutes. After you’ve made the mango salsa, let it sit on your counter for a good 15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. You can skip if you can’t wait, but it really enhances the flavor!

  1. Hold the mango on its side so the stalk is toward you.
  2. Using a large chef’s knife, cut around the core on one side. Start about 1/4″ from the center and follow the curve of the pit.
  3. Repeat the same cut on the other side of the pit.
  4. Using a paring knife, cut the mango into squares without cutting through the skin.
  5. Use a large spoon to scoop between the fruit and skin to remove the diced mango.

  • 2 ripe mangoes
  • ¼ large red onion (or ½ small onion)
  • 2 large handful of coriander (2 tablespoons chopped)
  • 1/2 Jalapeno chilli
  • 1 lime
  • Kosher salt

  1. Cut the mangoes into small cubes. Finely chop the onion. Chop the cilantro. Remove the seeds and ribs from the jalapeño peppers, being careful to protect your hands and eyes from the juice, then finely chop the peppers. Squeeze lime.
  2. Combine mango, red onion, cilantro, jalapeño, lime juice and kosher salt. Taste and adjust flavors as desired to balance the sweetness of the mango with the tart lime and tangy pepper. For best results, let sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes to allow the flavors to blend. Serve with homemade tortilla chips.
