How to make chocolate hummus

I was served a store-bought version of this chocolate hummus when I retired a few years ago and was so intrigued I had to try a recipe myself! Using hummus as a lightly sweetened dip with fruit and pretzels was so delicious I could hardly stop eating it! Over the years we’ve heard from many of you who have adored this recipe with the same intensity as we have! It goes down very well with the children. And it’s suitable for almost any diet (vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free), so pretty good for parties.

As with any hummus, to make this chocolate hummus recipe you will need a food processor. (If you don’t have one, here’s one We recommend a food processor.) Then just mix the chickpeas with tahini, maple syrup, cocoa powder and vanilla! They combine to create a wonderfully creamy dip. We also requested the use of a small canned chickpea liquid called aquafaba. You can also use water, but you’ll get an even creamier chocolate hummus with aquafaba.

What is tahini? If you don’t know tahini, it’s a typical hummus ingredient. Tahini is a sesame seed paste typically used in Middle Eastern or Mediterranean dishes. It’s just sesame and salt!
