How to Make Baked Goat Cheese Dip: Basic Steps

This baked goat cheese dip was inspired by a similar dish from one of our favorite local restaurants, a pizzeria called Napolese. We adapted the concept of her recipe and it became a family favorite. It’s perfect for entertaining, like holidays or New Year’s Eve, or just for dinner with friends. Here is the main concept:

  • Prepare a quick roasted tomato sauce. This variety of canned tomato is essential for flavor (more on that below).
  • Add the goat cheese and cook at 375F for 15 minutes. Add the goat cheese directly into the sauce and cook until creamy and melted.
  • If desired, grill the top for a few charcoal spots. If desired, you can grill the top of the baked goat cheese dip for golden flecks of char. We usually eat it right away and don’t worry about the grilling! Another nice addition would be a sprinkling of chopped basil on top.

Why Use Fire Roasted Tomatoes?

Fire roasted tomatoes are canned tomatoes that are flame roasted to bring out their sweet flavor. We love them because you can absolutely taste the difference.

  • Fire roasted tomatoes taste sweet and juicy straight from the can. Compare that to regular tomatoes, which taste a bit bitter and sour.
  • Because the flavor is already developed, you don’t have to cook them as long. Shorter cook times are always better, right?
  • Many brands sell fire roasted tomatoes. Check alongside canned tomatoes. Our favorite brand is Muir Glen.
  • You can use them in many other recipes. Our fan-favorite pizza sauce uses fire-roasted tomatoes, as do many of our recipes because they have them better Taste. Try them in Baked Ziti, Classic Bean Soup, Easy Kale Soup, Creamy Marinara Cheese Tortellini and more.

The description

This Baked Goat Cheese Dip is an irresistibly delicious appetizer or side dish! The creamy goat cheese, tomato and garlic sauce is magical.

  • 3 Garlic cloves
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • ½ teaspoon dried basil
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 28– once able to cook roasted tomatoes
  • 8 ounces goat cheese
  • 1 Baguette
  • For garnish: chopped fresh basil (optional)

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Chop the garlic. In a medium skillet, combine olive oil, garlic, red pepper flakes, dried basil, dried oregano, and kosher salt. Stir and sauté over medium-high heat until garlic sizzles, but before it begins to brown, about 45 seconds. Stir in the tomatoes and cook over low heat for 5-10 minutes until the sauce starts to thicken. Remove from fire.
  3. Pour the tomato mixture into a casserole dish (or small individual bowls), then top with mounds of goat cheese. Bake 15 minutes.
  4. If desired, grill over high heat for 3 to 5 minutes, watching closely, until the goat cheese is golden brown. Garnish with chopped fresh basil, if you like. Serve with crusty bread or baguette slices (or toast at 375°F for 15 minutes for crostini baguette slices).
