These Baked Avocado Fries are irresistible! They’re crispy, crunchy, and a healthy way to mix up standard fries.

Avocado fries

You know you like fries, but have you tried them yet?Avocado fries? They’re crispy and crunchy, a little spicy, and packed with rich avocado flavor. Ideal to shake up your escort routine! When Alex introduced me to this concept, I was a bit suspicious. They seemed to be one of those trends that isn’t as good as it looks. But count me among the converts because these crunchy numbers are absolutely irresistible! They’re high in good fats and a healthy alternative to traditional fries. (Plus, you can eat them in tacos.) Here’s how to make them!

Ingredients in Avocado Fries… and the perfect avocado

There is a short list of ingredients for these avocado fries. Even better, they’re vegan! Instead of dredging them in eggs like most breaded recipes, we used oil to preserve all of the coating and stay plant-based. Here’s what you need and what to look for in your attorneys:

  • Lawyers: Here is the most important part! Make sure your avocados are ripe but still firm. You don’t want mushy avocados because they won’t stand up to the breading process.
  • Plain Flour: You can use any kind, including gluten-free
  • Panco: You can find gluten-free panko online if you need it
  • Spices: oregano, garlic powder, and chilli powder
  • Salt
  • lime juice
  • olive oil

How to Make Avocado Fries: Basic Steps and Tips!

Preparing avocado fries has the same basic steps as most breaded recipes. Here’s what you’ll do and some tips along the way:

  • Lightly coat the avocado slices with flour and spices. This allows subsequent ingredients to stick to the discs instead of sliding off.
  • Dip the slices in oil and lime juice. This provides the liquid that helps the breading stick.
  • Spread it over the panko slices. Then dip the avocado slices into the panko.
  • The flour and oil will make the panko sticky, so refresh as needed. Reconstitute further with fresh panko to preserve that nice and crispy exterior.
  • Bake at 425 degrees for 15 minutes. You don’t even have to go back!

What is panko?

Have you ever worked with panko? Panko is a fluffy mixture of breadcrumbs used in Japanese cuisine for fried foods. It’s also found its way into international cuisines as the perfect breading for frying…or for baked avocado fries! Panko is available at most grocery stores; If you can’t find any, look for (or make!) coarse breadcrumbs instead. Some store-bought breadcrumbs have a very fine texture that wouldn’t be as crunchy as panko.

The safe way to cut an avocado

Slicing an avocado requires pitting, and sometimes that can be a bit dangerous if you don’t have the right knife skills. How to cut an avocado… for sure!

  1. Cut around: Using a large chef’s knife, slice lengthwise around the avocado. Twist the two halves to separate them.
  2. Pit holding a towel: Take a towel and put the avocado on it. In one gentle but quick motion, tap the knife into the pit of the avocado.
  3. Use our safety tip: Don’t try to remove the pit from the avocado by hand! Instead, pull the cutting board close to your body, then place the core against the back edge of the cutting board and pull back to free it from the knife. (Check out the video below for this part!)
  4. Remove and slice: Use a large spoon to scoop the avocado out of the skin. Place the avocado cut-side down and slice. To dice the avocado, turn the slices and cut crosswise to get diced avocado.

Dipping sauces to serve

Once you’ve prepared your avocado fries, it’s time for dipping! You definitely don’t need a dip, but it boosts it up a bit. Here are some sauces we recommend for serving (for a vegan appetizer or side dish, use vegan mayonnaise):

Or try them in tacos!

Last idea: instead of using them as a healthy side dish, you could serve these avocado fries as taco filling! Serve them in a taco with our special taco sauce and they’re packed with amazing flavor. The crispy breaded texture is almost reminiscent of a fish taco. Go to this one Avocado Taco Recipe.

  • ⅓ cup olive oil
  • 1 cup Panko

Place the slice on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Repeat for all slices. When the panko starts to get sticky, refresh it with the remaining ½ cup of dry panko.
  7. Bake 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown. Serve warm with a dip of your choice (see ideas above).
