I was pretty insecure about growing asparagus. The image of sprouting lifeless green stalks on my plate as a child is burned into my memory! It wasn’t until I was an adult that I started giving him a chance. Even today, when asparagus is not cooked properly, it can take me back to that time. Luckily, this baked asparagus tastes so good that even our toddler devoured it! The lemon-asparagus-parmesan combination is a hit every time.

How long to cook asparagus? About 10-15 minutes at 425 degrees. Here are the outlines of how to add positive flavor to these green stems surprised (Where directly to the recipe):

  • Preparation: Cut off the woody ends of the asparagus. Place them on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil or parchment paper.

These Baked Asparagus are an easy side dish that everyone will love! The green stems are gently roasted, sprinkled with lemon and topped with parmesan.


  • 1 chop the asparagus
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 Lemon (zests from half, plus slices from the other half)
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese (omit for vegans)

  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Cut off the tough bottom ends of the asparagus. Place the asparagus spears on a foil-covered baking sheet. Drizzle with olive oil and add kosher salt and a few black peppercorns. Add the zest of half a lemon and mix with your hands. Cut 4 lemon slices from the lemon into thin slices and place directly on the plate. Sprinkle everything with Parmesan.
  3. Cook for 10 to 15 minutes, until tender when pierced through the thickest part with a fork. The timing depends on the thickness of the asparagus tips (ours in the photo were made after 12 minutes). Serve immediately.
