How to safely pit and chop an avocado

The only technique for Avocado Tuna Salad Recipe is to make sure you pit your avocado safely! Many people have knife safety issues when cutting this green fruit. How to best cut an avocado:

  1. Slice lengthways around the avocado. Twist the two halves to separate them.
  2. Take a towel and put the avocado on it. In one gentle but quick motion, tap the knife into the pit of the avocado.
  3. Do not remove the avocado stone by hand! Instead, pull the cutting board close to your body, then place the core against the back edge of the cutting board and pull back to free it from the knife. (Watch the video below for this part!)
  4. Use a large spoon to scoop the avocado out of the skin. Place the avocado cut-side down, then slice and then into chunky chunks.

Try it Mexican!

Tuna salad with avocado is also often served with Mexican flavors. This version is a classic and simple handle. But you can mix it up and go for a Mexican twist! Replace the lemon with fresh lime juice and add a few tablespoons of chopped cilantro.
