Admission: We often run out of snack ideas (even as cookbook authors!). Here’s a healthy snack that captured the imagination of our 5 year old, and later ours too: apple nachos! This simple combination of sweetened yogurt, almonds, and apple chunks is so refreshing and delicious you’ll find it hard to stop eating. It’s really just loaded apple slices, but it’s all in the branding, right? Here’s how to make this fun snack.
Apple Nacho Ingredients
These apple nachos were inspired by our 5 year old and have now become a family favorite! He pulled out a children’s cookbook from the library and flipped through it when he came across a picture of apple nachos. We made them together and from the first bite he was won over! This recipe is our take on the concept of this book (Super Foods for Super Kids, which we recommend!). It’s so easy to make and a great way to incorporate healthy foods into your snacking no matter your age. You will need:
- apples
- greek yogurt or plain yoghurt
- maple syrup or honey
- peanut butter (optional; omit if allergic to nuts)
- sliced almonds
- Cinammon

Notes on yogurt drizzle
This apple nachos recipe is so easy you can make it without even looking at the recipe. The drizzle is similar to our Easy Fruit Dip or Peanut Butter Dip, which we often make just by mixing the ingredients together without measuring. Here are some notes about drizzle:
- Use Greek or plain yogurt. Plain yogurt has a looser texture; Greek yogurt will thicken.
- Add peanut butter if desired but not necessary. We love it both ways.
- If thick, add water 1 teaspoon at a time to get a light consistency for applying the nachos. We add up to 1 tablespoon of water when using Greek yogurt and peanut butter, but it all depends on the brand and type of yogurt and whether you’ve added PB.
Variations on Apple Nacho Toppings
There are many ways to make apple nachos. You can keep them so healthy and easy, which we love because they’re super easy to put together and taste amazing. Or you can style them more like a dessert. Here are some other topping ideas:
- Pecans, peanuts, or chopped walnuts
- Mini Chocolate Chips
- granola
- raisins
- Peanut Butter Drizzle (heat in microwave for easy basting)
- caramel or chocolate sauce
- asparagus
