Sugared pecans have to be one of the easiest candies to make. No worries about melting sugar, moisture or candy thermometer. Simply coat the pecans with an egg white solution and then coat them again with a little sugar and spices. Put them in the oven and bake them for half an hour.

Sugared pecans are a dangerous snack!

The only problem? They are so sweet. A friend of mine made me promise not to bring her anything; The last batch that crossed her path never made it to her kids! Muchas gracias to Heidi H. for the recipe.

What are Sugared Pecans?

Sugared pecans are pecans that have been glazed or coated with a coating of sugar that sometimes contains spices. You may see them as flavored pecans or candied pecans.

How Long Do Sugared Pecans Last?

Sugared pecans can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for about 2 weeks, or longer depending on humidity.

You can also store these in the freezer for a few months.

To keep your pecans from getting sticky, put one of those silica gel packs (like the ones that shoeboxes or seaweed packs come in) inside to keep moisture down.

Personalize your candied pecans

We use traditional holiday seasonings in this recipe, but feel free to adjust the flavors to your liking.

  • A bit of cayenne will add some fire.
  • A hint of cocoa will appeal to chocolate lovers.
  • A hint of ground cardamom gives these a Scandinavian or South Asian vibe.
  • Replace all spices with 1 1/2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice or Chinese five spice.
  • Decorate them with a bit of citrus zest.
  • Swap out your favorite nut for pecans. Try walnuts, almonds, cashews or another combination.

How to gift candy pecans

Candied pecans make thoughtful Christmas gifts for co-workers and neighbors. As they ship well, they are perfect for distant friends and family. Wrap them in small cellophane bags tied with ribbons or use mason jars. Add a handwritten label for a special touch.

Ways to Use Sugared Pecans
