Strawberry Almond Oat Smoothies are filling, lightly sweetened with almond extract and ready in just minutes. It’s the perfect quick and easy breakfast to get your day off to a great start.

Despite my best efforts to vary my morning eating routine, the only breakfasts I really enjoy are fruit and yogurt. These grab-and-go oatmeal cups are my breakfast most days of the week.

Why this smoothie is a great breakfast

Here are 10 reasons it makes the cut for me:

  1. It’s fast.
  2. It’s easy.
  3. It is healthy.
  4. I always have the ingredients in my freezer and pantry.
  5. It is free from added sugar.
  6. It met my needs for yogurt and fruit.
  7. I can have breakfast in the car.
  8. it fills
  9. It’s so fruity and refreshing.
  10. I can make little packets out of the ingredients and keep them in the freezer.
  11. BONUS (number 11!): It reminds me of summer and sunny days even when it’s gray outside.

What are the best oatmeal for smoothies?

Oatmeal makes this smoothie very filling because it’s high in fiber (both soluble and insoluble), and then there’s the bonus of the minerals in the oatmeal.

Uncooked old-fashioned rolled oats give this smoothie the best texture, but if you don’t mind a coarser texture, you can use oatmeal. Quick-cooked oats are fine too, but make sure they don’t contain any additives. Oats and frozen fruit also make this smoothie extra thick.

Milk vs. milk smoothies

Since I don’t have a problem with dairy, I make this smoothie with yogurt, but you can substitute almond milk for the yogurt if you want to avoid this.

Add a few drops of lemon or lime juice to recreate the tang of yogurt if your smoothie isn’t spicy enough for your taste. You can use any other non-dairy milk or yogurt here as well.

The best way to sweeten and flavor your smoothie

Everyone has their own tastes (mine are pretty basic, don’t judge), which makes smoothies a great breakfast option. Everyone can adapt the recipe to their taste.

  • A few slices of banana add sweetness and help create a creamy texture.
  • Add a spoonful of honey or agave if you like it extra sweet.
  • Start sweet by adding sweetened nut milk or yogurt.
  • Enhance the flavor with a little pure almond extract – a little goes a long way.
  • Add a few drops of vanilla extract.
  • Boost protein power by adding a tablespoon of almond butter.
