Pomegranate Paloma
Pomegranate Paloma

This Ruby Red Pomegranate Paloma is just the cocktail you need for the holidays! Lively, happy, sweet, tart and sparkling.

Deck the halls, it’s time for Merry Merry with a pomegranate paloma cocktail!

A “paloma,” if you’re unfamiliar, is a grapefruit version of a margarita with lime juice, tequila, and a salt-rimmed glass. (It’s also Spanish for “pigeon,” which is neither here nor there when it comes to the drink.)

And while I lean towards anything grapefruit, a tequila/lime/salt combo with pomegranate juice rocks. Stir it up with a rosemary puree and you have a drink that’s decked out entirely for the holidays in a ruby red coat with a salty white rim.

To make it, all you need is pomegranate juice, some high-quality white tequila, lime juice, simple syrup, and a salt-rimmed glass. Top it up with club soda for bubbles and give it a twist with a sprig of rosemary for full effect.

A winner of a Paloma recipe

Full disclosure, I created (and won!) this recipe for a recipe contest at my college reunion. Because the college team’s name is the Cardinal (color, not bird or priest), we named the drink “Cardinal Sin.” It was the hit of the reunion!

If you want to make a non-alcoholic version of this drink, substitute orange juice for the tequila and omit the salt rim.
