When these Orange Poppy Seed Cookies bake, it’s culinary aromatherapy.
The cookies are easy to put together. They are light and tender but full of flavor. Perfect for cookie-loving kids, yet perfectly suited to bridal showers, baby showers, or any other light-hearted event.
Feel free to substitute lemon for orange if you want something more reminiscent of the classic Lemon Poppy Seed Muffin.
If you opt for lemon, substitute a teaspoon of ground coriander for the poppy seeds and add with the remaining dry ingredients for a more Mediterranean, slightly savory cookie.

1/2 Cup butterroom temperature
-
1 eggroom temperature
-
1 tablespoon Orange peel
-
1 1/4 cups flour
-
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
-
prize Salt
-
1 tablespoon Poppy
method
-
Cream together the butter and sugar, about 3 minutes.
-
Add the egg and orange zest, beating for 30 seconds, scraping the bowl halfway to ensure an even mixture.
-
In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Slowly sift into the butter mixture until just combined. Fold in the poppy seeds.
-
Place heaping teaspoons on a parchment-lined or silpat-lined baking sheet, leaving room as they will spread as they bake.
-
Bake at 350°F for 10 to 12 minutes or until just golden on the edges. Take out of the oven. Let them rest on the baking sheet for a minute or two to allow the cookies to set a bit, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
