The best and easiest way to defrost shrimp? Put them in the fridge the night before. Yes, if you think ahead: defrosting shrimp is effortless. All you need is to let them do their thing in the fridge. Here are a few things to keep in mind with this method:

  • It takes about 12 hours to thaw shrimp in the refrigerator.
  • Once thawed, consume within 48 hours.

Defrost shrimp: the method in 15 minutes!

If you’re like us, and we suspect you are, you probably haven’t thought of your frozen shrimp before. It’s dinner time and your stomach is already growling. Fear not: we have a method that takes about 15 minutes (more or less a few minutes depending on the size of the shrimp). To thaw shrimp on cook day:

  • Remove the shrimp from the packaging and place them in a large bowl of very cold water.
  • Set a timer for 15 minutes. Shake the bowl every 5 minutes to break up clumps that are freezing together.
  • Shrimp should be defrosted in about 15-20 minutes depending on the size of the shrimp (very large shrimp may take up to 20 minutes).
