Winter. Dungeness crab season. super bowl

It’s been raining and in my 40s for the last month (okay, you don’t have to tell me I’m a California wimp — I know it’s probably worse where you are. Heck, dad’s from Minnesota, he knows it ) and any excuse to make something hot and happy in the oven is appreciated!

Here’s a quick, easy, and delicious hot crab dip perfect for a winter get-together. The base consists of cream cheese, mayonnaise and shrimp.

We refined ours with spring onions, parsley, horseradish, slivered almonds and Tabasco. Remember that the proportions of the ingredients are only guidelines, this is really a matter of taste!

Which crab to buy

Look for lump crab meat for this recipe. Any mixture of lump, dorsal fin, and/or claw crab meat will work well.

Make Ahead Crab Dip

This dip is best served piping hot as soon as it comes out of the oven. If you want to keep making it, just mix everything together, pack into a casserole dish, and refrigerate until ready to reheat!

It’s also easy to transport the cold dip to your party and warm it up when you get there.
