What would spaghetti be without a side of buttery garlic bread?

There are several methods and twists to make garlic bread. The easiest way is to simply rub a sliced clove of garlic over toasted slices of Italian or French bread and brush the toast with olive oil or butter.

Toasty or soft garlic bread?

The methods of making Toasted Garlic Bread or Softened Garlic Bread are slightly different:

  • Crunchy, toasted garlic bread is halved lengthwise, brushed with butter and garlic and then baked uncovered in the oven. Fry it at the end for extra crispiness.
  • Soft Garlic Bread is sliced like an accordion (slicing like slicing but not going all the way through), then rub butter blender between slices. Wrap the bread in foil and then bake it. This keeps the bread soft while garlic butter is poured into each slice.

Store and freeze garlic bread

Whether it’s crunchy or soft, garlic bread really does taste best right out of the oven. The leftovers don’t keep very well.

  • For warming up crusty garlic bread, Unwrap the bread and place the halves, buttered side up, on a baking sheet. Cover loosely with foil and bake until bread is warmed through and butter begins to melt. Remove the foil and continue to bake and grill as directed.
  • To warm up soft garlic breadloosen the foil slightly so that it is no longer wrapped so tightly but is still enclosed in foil, then place the bread in the oven and bake through.

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick, 112 G) unsalted buttersoftened

  • 2 big cloves garlicshattered and crushed

  • 1 accumulate tablespoon chopped fresh parsley

  • 1/4 cup (25 G) fresh grated parmesan cheese (Optional)

method

METHOD 1: TOASTED GARLIC BREAD

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F
  2. Prepare Garlic Bread:

Halve the bread horizontally. Mix butter, garlic and parsley in a small bowl. Spread butter mixture on both halves of bread.

  3. Heat in the oven for 10 minutes:

Place on a sturdy baking pan (one that can withstand high temperatures, not a baking sheet) and heat in a 175°C (350°F) oven for 10 minutes.

  4. Sprinkle with parmesan (optional) and grill:

Take the pan out of the oven. Sprinkle parmesan over the bread if you like. Back in the oven on the highest rack.

Grill over high heat for 2-3 minutes, until the edges of the bread are toasty and the cheese (if using cheese) is bubbling. Watch very closely while frying. The bread can easily go from untoasted to burnt.

  5. Disc:

Remove from the oven, let cool for a minute. Remove from the pan and cut into 1 cm thick slices with a bread knife. Serve immediately.

METHOD 2: SOFT GARLIC BREAD

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F

Prepare the butter, garlic and parsley mixture as above

  2. Slice the bread and add the butter mixture:

Make 1 inch thick slices into the bread, but don’t go all the way through, just to the bottom crust. Place a teaspoon or two of the butter mixture between each slice, or between every other slice if you only want the garlic mixture on one side of the bread.

  3. Bake the Garlic Bread:

Wrap the bread in aluminum foil and heat in the oven at 175°C for 15 minutes, until the butter has melted and the bread has warmed up.

  4. Surcharge:

To serve, remove from foil and present wrapped in a clean tea towel. Tear off slices to eat.
