Fall Spiced Old Fashioned Cocktail
Fall Spiced Old Fashioned Cocktail

Here’s a vintage cocktail that’s ready for fall! Maple syrup plus fortified bourbon brings warming fall spices—cloves, star anise, and cinnamon—to this twist on the classic cocktail.

The Old Fashioned is one of my favorite cocktails – it’s reliable and a little bit chic at the same time. The warmth of the whiskey and the little sweetness of the sugar make a truly unbeatable combination.

What are the ingredients for an Old Fashioned?

Your signature Old Fashioned is made with a sugar cube, bitters, and bourbon. I like to mix in a bit of orange zest, but for purists that’s debatable.

This variant uses maple syrup instead of sugar, giving the drink extra depth and richness.

Add spice to your bourbon!

For something even more seasonal (and even a little unexpected), try dressing up your maple with this spice-infused bourbon.

An Old Fashioned with spicy bourbon has a bit more richness and warmth, just in time for a chilly night.

Which Bourbon Should You Buy for an Old Fashioned?

A good bourbon makes a great Old Fashioned. For this cocktail, choose a premium brand like Knob Creek or Bulleit. Four Roses is a cheaper option and also makes a delicious cocktail.
If you don’t like the infusion and just want to stay classic, it will still be delicious. Or if you want the flavored bourbon and don’t want to wait until it’s infused, there are many brands that make flavored bourbon, such as Wild Turkey.
