Easy Baked Apple Slices

Apple pie with no crust! Easy Baked Apples will be your favorite microwave apple recipe. Or bake in the oven. Anyway, here’s an easy, satisfying apple dessert that you can adapt to your link.

No time for an apple pie? Don’t want crust? You can get your apple pie fast with just baked apple slices!

My mom started baking apple slices this way a few years ago as an everyday dessert, and it’s what we eat almost every night during apple season.

How to make baked apple slices in the microwave

It is so easy! All you have to do is mix some slices of peeled and cored apples with cinnamon and sugar and microwave them for a few minutes.

When the apple slices are cooked through, give them a quick stir with some maple syrup.

We fought with the name. Mom wanted “crustless apple pie” but we didn’t make that. “Apple Pie Filling” didn’t go over well either.

How long to bake apple slices in the oven

Don’t have a microwave? Place the apples and cinnamon sugar in a casserole dish, add 1/3 cup water to the pan, cover with foil and bake in a preheated oven at 350F for 20 minutes or until apples are tender.

Exchanges for spices and sweeteners

  • Try other spices, like pumpkin pie spice or Chinese five spice, for a different flavor.
  • Instead of the regular sugar, use brown sugar, honey, or more maple syrup.
  • For a richer flavor, add a knob of butter to the hot apples and allow to melt before serving.
  • Add chopped walnuts, pecans, or slivered almonds for a crunchier texture.

How to bake whole apples instead of slices

If you don’t want to peel and slice the apples, make our whole baked apples instead! They are hollowed out and filled with sugar, spices and dried fruit.

How to store and reheat baked apples

Store baked apple slices in a covered container in the refrigerator for 3 to 5 days. Microwave for 30 seconds to 1 minute to reheat. Cooked apples also freeze well. They will keep in the freezer for up to 5 months in a tightly sealed container.

As you cut the apples, pay attention to their taste. If they don’t taste good raw, believe me, they won’t taste good cooked.

ingredients

  • 4 cups peeled off, cut apples (Use apples that cook well, e.g Fuji or Jonagold)

  • 3 tablespoon sugar

  • sprinkle from Cinammon

  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup

method

  1. Season apples:

Place apple slices in a glass bowl. Sprinkle the apples with the sugar. Add a light pinch of cinnamon.

  2. To heat apples in the microwave:

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap. Be sure to air the plastic wrap a little or poke a few holes in it with a fork to allow some steam to escape.

Microwave for 5 minutes on high power. Adjust the time for your microwave and how many apples you make. Ours has a strong high setting so 4 cups of apples only takes 5 minutes.

If you use more apples, you will likely need to cook them a little longer. I suggest starting with 5 minutes and testing doneness with a fork. If they need more cooking time, give them more.

  3. Add maple syrup and serve:

When the apples are done, flip them over so the sugar coats the apple pieces. Add maple syrup to taste, about 1 tablespoon.

To serve, add whipped cream on top or vanilla ice cream on the side, as desired.
