Cantaloupe Smoothie
Cantaloupe Smoothie

Blend up a large glass of this refreshing cantaloupe smoothie for a quick cool down. Ripe juicy pieces of melon form the perfect light and sweet basis for the cool drink.

When you need a refreshing drink, try this summer-inspired cantaloupe smoothie. It’s only five ingredients and whips up in under 10 minutes! Thick and creamy, each satisfying sip is a quick relief from the sweltering summer heat. I mix up a serving for those warm afternoons when you need a light snack to sip on.

Usually when a fragrant and ripe melon can be sliced, large chunks for snacking are all I need for a sweet and nutritious treat. However, I ventured out and incorporated it into my smoothie routine.

How to make a cantaloupe smoothie

Freeze melon: If you add frozen fruit to the smoothie, you get a creamy drink. I cut the cantaloupe into roughly 1-inch chunks, place the fruit in a single layer in a resealable plastic bag, then freeze overnight. When blended, the fruit creates a thick texture without diluting the melon flavor.

If you only have fresh fruit on hand, this recipe still works! Just increase the ice to 1 1/2 cups.

Order of operations: Add the solid ingredients first, like the ice cream. As a result, they are immediately broken up into small ice crystals by the blades. Next, add the chunks of melon, banana, yogurt, and pineapple juice. The liquid will help work the ingredients into a smooth consistency.

Tips to prepare this smoothie ahead of time

Making smoothies is quick and easy, but sometimes it’s nice to have the ingredients together and close at hand. We have a comprehensive guide to making your own smoothie packs if you want to go deep, or you can follow a few tips below:

  • Cut the melon and banana into 1 inch pieces.
  • Place the measured fruit in a ziplock bag and store in the freezer until ready to use. You can make multiple smoothie pouches and have them ready up to 30 days in advance.
  • You can even put the ice cream in the portioned bags too!
  • When using this make-ahead method, I recommend reducing the ice by half and adding more juice as needed while blending.

Cantaloupe smoothie variations

The five-ingredient smoothie is a great base for the drink. However, why not get a little creative to switch up each batch for variety. Try these delicious add-ins:

  • To add some fresh garden flavors to the smoothie, throw in a few mint or basil leaves.
  • Substitute chilled green tea for the pineapple juice when you need a caffeine boost.
  • Adjust the smoothie’s sweetness by adding some honey, agave syrup, or maple syrup.
  • Other juices can be used for a tropical flavor, such as guava, passion fruit, mango, or orange juice.
  • Use coconut cream or coconut yogurt instead of Greek yogurt.
