Blue cheese sauce isn’t about subtlety. It’s the food equivalent of a preschooler pedaling through your living room at full speed.
That’s exactly how I like it.
How does this blue cheese sauce taste?
Blue cheese sauce is assertive and salty, with a tangy garlic kick. This sauce is for the spirited among us. It’s for those who want their food to emerge from the shadows and be recognized.
I prefer to use it on a burger and combined with bacon jam.
Ingredients for blue cheese sauce
My brother, who is an excellent cook himself, taught me the basics of this recipe.
He combined the boldness of blue cheese with the strong flavors of garlic, buttermilk and sour cream. It only takes a few minutes to mix, but you’ll want to mix all the flavors together in the fridge for about 30 minutes before serving to the renegades below.

Can I double the blue cheese sauce?
A little goes a long way with this sauce, but if you need more for a large gathering or really love blue cheese, feel free to double or even triple it. It has a shelf life of about a week.
Chunky or Smooth Blue Cheese Sauce
The sauce should be chunky, but if you prefer a smoother consistency, use an immersion blender to puree or pulse in a food processor until you achieve a creamier consistency.
Ways to use blue cheese sauce
The humble burger doesn’t get all the fun with this sauce. Spoon over a steak, serve with chicken wings and veggies, or thin and drizzle over grilled romaine. Use as a spread on grilled or cold cheese, meat or vegetable sandwiches.

How to choose the best blue cheese for this dip
The “best” blue cheese comes down to your personal taste preferences. Blue cheese lovers often don’t mind one with a bit of zest, so if you’re into that strong blue cheese lager, you could opt for Roquefort or Maytag. When serving this dip to those who like something milder, Gorgonzola or Danish Blue would be good choices.
How to store blue cheese dipping sauce
Your sauce should stay fresh, refrigerated in an airtight container, for up to a week.
