Air Fryer Hot Dogs
Air Fryer Hot Dogs

Cooking up some hot dogs for a quick meal? Grab your hot air fryer! Great for kids’ lunches and easy to upgrade for adults.

In general, I make hot dogs two ways. I either grill the hot dogs when it’s BBQ season or I cook the hot dogs for the kids. The concept of air frying hot dogs was new to me, but I have to admit that it was immediately added to my list of ways to cook hot dogs quickly.

I’m not one to air fry everything in the kitchen, but the technology is really cool and if you’re looking to cook a meal in a limited amount of time, it’s a great kitchen tool.

The finished hot dogs will be a bit crispy on the outside with a nice bite and stay very juicy on the inside. Best of all, they’re ready in no time! I’m talking about a maximum of 5 minutes.

My Favorite Home Cooking Hot Dogs

Before we dive into the Airfryer method for hot dogs, I think it’s important to spend some time exploring the different brands of hot dogs on the market. While you can absolutely air fry any hot dog you have, I prefer to buy beef hot dogs in a natural casing that crisp up slightly in the air fryer.

When it comes to brands, I tend to buy either Hebrew National or Nathan’s Famous.

How to air fry hot dogs

It doesn’t get much easier than air frying hot dogs. I recommend spraying the basket with some nonstick spray just to make sure nothing sticks (especially if you’re toasting the buns as below).

There’s no need to turn the hot dogs or anything while they’re air frying – they’ll cook evenly.

I recommend cooking them at 350F for about 5 minutes and they will be piping hot and ready to serve!

Toast the buns in the air fryer

This is a bonus step that I find totally fun and delicious. I love a toast bun with my hot dogs and the air fryer makes this an easy extra step. Once you’ve air fried your hot dogs, add the hot dogs to the buns and return to the air fryer. You may only fit 2 at a time, but the bread toasts quickly.

Turn on your air fryer for just 90 seconds and it will toast that hot dog bun to perfection!

Simple tip!

Add a slice of cheese between the hot dog and bun and when you air fry it the cheese melts and is so delicious. This is definitely my new favorite cheesy dog situation.

  • 4 Hot Dog Bun (upper cut is best)

  • 4 slices Cheddar cheese, Optional

To serve

  • Mustard

  • Ketchup

method

  1. Spray the basket of an air fryer with nonstick spray.
  2. Air Fry the Hot Dogs:

Place your 4 hot dogs in the air fryer basket, leaving some space between each hot dog.

Air fry at 350˚F for 5 minutes. When the hot dogs are done, they should be piping hot and lightly browned in spots.

  3. Toasting buns in the air fryer:

Using tongs or a fork, remove the hot dogs from the air fryer basket and place each hot dog in a bun.

    Simple tip!

I prefer top cut buns for this recipe. The buns stand up more easily for better toasting.

Place 2 assembled hot dogs in the air fryer and cook for 90 seconds to toast the bun. The toasted bun has a light toast and is slightly crispy on the edges.

If adding cheese to your hot dogs, add a slice of cheese to the center of each bun and top with hot dog. Air fry for 90 seconds, the cheese will melt and the buns will toast.

Repeat with the remaining hot dogs.

  4. Serve:

Serve hot dogs instantly with your favorite hot dog toppings like mustard, ketchup, and pickles.
