Air Fryer Crispy Cauliflower
Air Fryer Crispy Cauliflower

Crispy cauliflower for victory, thanks to your air fryer! With spices, some egg and a light breadcrumbs, the cauliflower becomes even tastier and crunchier. Perfect as an appetizer or side dish.

Cauliflower is one of my favorite vegetables. Whether roasted, made into a pizza crust or in a vegetable curry, I love its versatility. And this Crispy Air Fryer Cauliflower is my new favorite way to eat it!

The trick to extra crispy cauliflower

Cauliflower will get a little crunchy if you just fry it or bake it without the breading, but to get it great crispy, light breading is key. Mix the cauliflower with spices, add to an egg mixture and then coat with breadcrumbs. The breadcrumbs will help keep the spices on the cauliflower and enhance the crispy outer coating.

Plus, if you want super crispy cauliflower, you can’t go wrong with an air fryer. The cauliflower is fried quickly and gets a nice crust. It also cooks quickly and is fairly easy to clean.

This crispy cauliflower is best eaten out of the air fryer as soon as possible so that it is warm and the breading is crispy. It’s okay to let it sit for a few minutes while you get another batch ready, but if it sits for too long (over 30 minutes) it will start to lose some of its crispiness.

To prepare crispy cauliflower in the oven, spread the cauliflower in an even layer on a baking sheet and bake in a 350 ̊F oven for 20-30 minutes. Turn the cauliflower once during baking to ensure it cooks evenly.

I don’t think the oven version gets quite as crispy as the Airfryer version because you lack that intense direct heat, but it’s still pretty damn good.

What to serve with crispy cauliflower

You can serve this vegetable as an accompaniment to any protein, like pan-fried chicken or pork chops. But my favorite thing to eat is crispy cauliflower as a hearty appetizer with a quick tangy blue cheese dip. The flavors come together beautifully and it makes a nice addition to an appetizer spread.

Proposals and Substitutions

  • If you don’t want to bread, just toss the cauliflower in olive oil and add the spices. It’s still okay to fry or air fry and get crispy edges.
  • If you are gluten sensitiveuse gluten-free breadcrumbs or cornmeal to coat the cauliflower.

Cooking without an air fryer: Preheat oven to 350˚F. Spread the cauliflower florets on a baking sheet and bake for 20-30 minutes, or until the cauliflower is crisp. Turn the cauliflower once during baking so it cooks evenly.

ingredients

For the blue cheese dip:

  • 1/4 Cup greek yogurt

  • 1/4 Cup mayonnaise

  • 1/4 Cup crumbles blue cheese

  • prize ground black pepper

  • hyphen hot sauce

For the crispy cauliflower:

  • 1 head cauliflower

  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 2 big eggs

  • 1/4 Cup water

  • 1 Cup breadcrumbs

  • non-stick sprayfor air fryer

method

  1. Make the blue cheese dip:

Mix the ingredients together in a medium-sized bowl. Store in the refrigerator until ready to use.

  2. Prepare cauliflower:

Cut the cauliflower into florets. It’s okay to have a few different sizes, but try to make sure no florets are larger than about 1 1/2 inches.

  3. Bread the cauliflower:

In a medium bowl, toss the florets with the salt, chili powder, and garlic powder. In a separate small bowl, add eggs and water and whisk. Add the egg mixture to the bowl with the cauliflower and toss. Once the cauliflower is coated in the egg mixture, toss in the breadcrumbs and coat well.

  4. Air roast cauliflower:

Spray the basket of an air fryer with nonstick spray and place as many cauliflower florets in the basket as will fit in a single layer. Place the basket back into the fryer and cook at 350°F for 7 minutes. Then turn the florets and fry for another 7 minutes.

Repeat until all of the cauliflower is done.

  5. Surcharge:

Serve cauliflower immediately when all batches are ready, or serve gradually as batches come out of the fryer. Cauliflower tastes best right out of the fryer! Serve with the blue cheese dip as an appetizer or side dish.
